cool quick write

The king's bite

Dear mum and dad this is my cool quick write.
This has a lot of good information about lions
that could possibly save your life.
I am sharing this piece of learning with you
because you might think well it's
one in a million
that ill get attacked by a lion but you could be that one
and I don't ever want that to happen.

You may say that the lion is just a big cat
But don’t underestimate the power of
It's teeth. Its tongue isn’t made for licking people
Truth be told that a lion's tongue is made for Licking meat off an unlucky prey/hunter.
Lions teeth can be up to 10 centimeters in length, you might think that's small but think
About a 10-centimeter tooth lodged in your arm.
Just like a panther they only attack if they are being attacked first.
Also if something is roaming in their territory.
You might think “what's it like to be attacked by a lion”.
The first thing to know about surviving a lion attack is to not run. ... Lions that are feeling
threatened will swish their tails back and forth, much like your cat does. Lions that are
hunting try to stay as still as possible, holding their tails rigid. If a lion is hunting you.

Well, let's just say it's very unlucky for you.

Camp Makahika

Camp Makahika

Camp is the only place where being considered weird is a good thing.

Dear Mum and Dad this is my Camp Makahika learning story.
I am sharing this with you because you've both asked me
the experience about Camp Makahika and I haven't properly
explained so hopefully after you read this, all of your
questions will be answered.

Orienteering

Dear mum and dad, on the first day at Camp Makahika we did some orienteering.
This was a really hard activity to do because
we were in the bush and didn’t
know where we were. Oh, and did I mention me and my partner got lost for quite a bit.
Finally, after being lost in the bush, I would say in 15/20 minutes one of our amazing teacher
aides came and found us. As much as I love the bush I wouldn't want to be trapped in the bush
whatsoever.

My Key Competency was Thinking. I had to think of a strategy
to get us out of the bush without getting
ourselves even more deeply in the bush.
Something that challenged me was going inside the bush because
I would think whilst go in the bush that it would be easy but actually, it was pretty challenging
because it wasn't only two people going into the bush it was also, two people going into the bush
and having to navigate our a way to number to the number.
My next step is to remember the skills that I learned at camp
so if I'm in a situation like getting lost in the bush,
I know that you stay where you are and yell for help
because if you keep moving you could get even more lost in the bush
and getting more lost is not helping yourself.

High beam and low beam

Climbing up the high beam I learned that I am not a person that likes to put themselves out there and I also learned that I am not an adrenaline lover. I would even say that I’m most likely not ever going to go 5 feet off the ground ever again.
In this activity, my Key Competencies were participating and contributing because I took a lot of risks doing this activity even
though it was hard. Another one was participating in the activity because this was so hard for me to climb up all those handles. It was so hard for me I only went halfway and I regret that.

The most significant learning in the challenge was learning about myself. I learned as soon as I got back on the ground that I was never doing anything like that ever again. I also learned that sometimes I need to think about the challenges in an activity because it might be more challenging than it looks.

My next steps are to know that if I ever get to have an opportunity like this is to take
it and ace it because I do regret not doing the whole high beam.

Susana's book talk

Dear Mum and Dad this is my book talk.
I want to show this with you because
I think doing the book talks
in the library was pretty important
for my learning and I want to show
you also since I'm a librarian I
think it's important to know

how to express emotion through
movement.

I want to share this piece of learning with you because learning how to express emotion
through a piece of text is challenging and in this snapshot of learning,
I was learning how to do that.

Every Monday Room 12 goes into the library to do a book talk. A book talk is when you
read a book and you use your voice to entertain the listeners. also using a lot of movement
and changing in your voice can make the listener more entertained. Also in a book talk using
a lot of expressions and movement is good for the readers not to get bored. The learning I've
found out doing the book talk so far is yeah you can read a book normal to a group of kids but
to really get the kids involved and really excited about reading using different voices for different

characters and maybe if it says "we were walking through mud" you can maybe use the
motions of your legs to represent that also if you really want the kids to really love reading
stand up so your voice is heard more and don't hold back if it has exclamation marks. If you
really want the kids to be engaged don't hold back on anything in reading if you think you
should shout a word out do it.

my next steps are to not puff myself on just one piece of text
I need to remember that it's not only one piece text
that I am reading.
My key competencies were participating and contributing
because at the start of the lessons I wasn't keen on
putting myself out there and using my voice to make the
texts more powerful.
